Having extra space in a home is always a good thing for growing families. This client had a poorly finished attic and wanted to increase its size and layout. We were able to move their furnace and ductwork to gain an entire bedroom nook. A new dynamic was created by opening up the spaces into one large room and adding skylights to help brighten the space so that it would be inviting for a comfortable entertainment area.
The client’s overall objective was to create a space that the whole family could enjoy. Everything from a toddler’s play corner, to a central entertainment center for movie night, to relaxing in the corner on the comfortable day bed. The design that was achieved used industrial, farmhouse, and modern elements. The metal railing gave that industrial feel, while the teak furniture and handrail complimented the age of the home with a mid-century modern feel. Flat black hardware, shiplap walls, and flat white paint was used to help give the modern farmhouse accent. Overall the space has become a comfortable, cozy attic that the whole family can enjoy!
